Enjoyng last sunny days we had a great satuday, we went to a recycling workshop for kids

organized by X-Lab, one of the coolest Art Gallery in Berlin( if you are in Berlin don´t miss it)

Sue Steele from Mutoid Waste Company and Kappo Kappino with plastic bottles all kind of recycling material made amazing robots with the kids.

Teresa had so much fun and learn that with fantasy and all kind of stuff you can make toys, cup or whatever you want.

Teresa already know how to separate garbage, she learned it like a game and also when we are outside she ask what is the right bin

There are a lot of books for kids from ege 3 about recycling, so buy it for your kid, give it like a present for friends or for the kindergarden, make something with plastic bottles, cork and all you want...

Baby sheepskin (or lambskin) yes or no?
For centuries mother had wound their children in sheepskin just after the birth and here in Germany it's still a common thing, recommended by midwives, pediatricians, antroposophic clinics and -the most important- from my friend Nicolina (wich, I swear, when it comes about my daughters, she's more competent than any midwife or pediatrician). Some studies showed that sheepskin keep the baby warm and dry and it helps develop her physical and emotional skills; the heat of the wool infuses calm and induces the newborn to relax helping her sleep better.
Obviously, it's necessary to purchase skins of sheep raised naturally, not treated with parasiticides and after not whitened or igenized.
As a vegan-vegetarian for more than twenty years -like I am- that has been a hard choice. I Have thought and consider it endlesly in my head: I would have sacrifice an animal for my daughter but what kind of message would I give to my children? not a very coherent one.
I have decided for a test, someone lends me his sheepskin and, I don't know if it's just my personal impression, but Tilda Joy seems to like it. She tosses naked in it and then she falls asleep, happy. If you decide to buy one of your own, sleep in it for a few months before giving to your babyborn because the skin will imbue with your smell/parfume and your baby will feel protected.
So, today the skin is here and I feel some guilt, I hope that twenty years of vegetarianism and animalist conscience will equalizes the account with my Karma.

i made my first quilt for my friend´s baby , really really simple just 4 big pieces for every side, but for a sewing nerd like me it´s a good way to start.
i found this cute fabric and a good organic cotton to make the batting at Frieda Hain in Berlin, the shop is quite expensive but has really really nice fabrics and material for sewing
I also made a very romantic blanket for Tilda Joy , this time i buy the fabric at Frau Tulpe another nice fabric shop in Berlin

Nesting:a natural mother instinct to organize the nest for her baby..cleaning, organizing, cooking meal to put in the refrigerator and clean again, ironing, doing laundry, shopping,making list, doing all the paper and finally clean again despite swollen feet, an aching back, and a huge belly.
I´m totally into the nesting syndrome, i keep on thinking "only four weeks to go so many things to do"
Seriously i´m also taking my time, sleep a lot, spending time on my own, probably for the last time in moths.
Teresa is spending lots of time with her father and she sleep at his place last night for the first time , i had mixed feelings about that but she seemed happy and i think she going trough all the separation stuff quite well, i speak a lot with Teresa, sincerely and even if it´s so hard for me we spent also time all together.I´m surprised how good i can handle the situation, pushing away all the negative feelings and concentrate on myself, the birth and my daughters.

Running running running ...organizing Teresa´birthday party.She will be 4 tomorrow
My daughter ask me for a huge cream and gummy bear cake...so i bought Vanille vegan cream and vegan gummy bear without sugar let´s see what i ll will create.
I´ll make some pizza and small fruits and soy yogurt cakes, friends will bring muffins....so get ready for a lot of children action :)
My belly is growing huge, my midwife said that Tilda could be around 2.2 and 2.5 kg now..and i have 6 weeks to go, Teresa was almost 4kg so maybe another big girl. The first months of pregnancy were terrible, i felt to tired and the nausea killed me all the day until the end of the 4 months, nothing really worked, but with the time it goes better, i had a contraction problem a month ago for sure caused by the stress i was going trough but with a lot of rest magnesium and fuck you very much thing goes better, i gain 11kg and that´s good i fell more fit rather that with the time before..i gained almost 20kg with Teresa and i fell like a beached whale.

It´s a long time that i don´t write on my blog, like you could see in the pictures i´m pregnant again, 33 weeks actually, so happy,it is a really wanted pregnancy.
During this journey i become a single mother, not easy in the beginning, been left and cheated with no respect could be heart breaking especially while you are pregnant, but after a while i realized that is just a step in my new life, time to change my self and turn in something better. And i ´m so lucky to be surrounded by lots of friends, other mums and family, i ll never thank them enough for her material and lovely support
Motherhood is such a spiritual journey and practice and you have to left back and far away all the negative person and elements in your life.
Since the beginning i know it would be another girl, and finding a name was easy Tilda Joy, Teresa is so happy about her sister, specially since my belly start to grow, Teresa start to speaks with her sister...shout at her " cannnn youuuu hear meeee I´m Tereeeesa" and loves to feel her sister kick and pushing. I m so proud of Teresa she will be the bigger sister, with some jealousy in the beginning but we are talking a lot about how much i love her and that she will be my baby forever and we will be a great inseparable trio.
I ´m organizing a home birth, i found an amazing midwife, Katharina , she make me feel safe in good hand, she is a professional midwife but we also become friend in this 9 months. I found out that me and my midwife have a really similar background, from the punk hard core, from the squot and etica. So i m focused on my home birth, read lots of book doing some sort of meditation. I recommend to every mom to be to buy Birthing from within written by Pam England, a good guide and instrument for focus on a natural non-pharmacological birth.i ll write more on my next post.

So the long winter is at the door, the beutifull autumn in Berlin is almost over, time to orgainze the hours we will spend at home. I m ordering lots of book, sewing books, sewing is my new passion i always love it, but now i'm really into it, it make me fell good, it's a time that is only for myself, rare moment of lonlyness. I also go to Sewing Cafe in Kreutzberg, STICH N BITCH, i always have a nice time there, my teacher Linda is so expert, funny and so good that can even teach me not to make incredible mess,but i still hold the " neadle breaker" record.

I THINK IT'S ONE OF THE BEST WORK I EVER HAD. I m the cook in Teresa's Vegatrian nursery school.
I LOVE COOKING ,I LOVE KIDS, MY BOSSES ARE GREAT, I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT MY DAUGHTER EAT AND WHERE THE FOOD COME FROM.
We go shopping to LPG Biomarkt (http://www.lpg-biomarkt.de/lpg-bouch-Ostrasse)where we buy fresh oraganic vegetables and hight quality producst.
I'm doing my best to do well balanced weekly menu, healthy and yummy food for the kids.

A NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM

We spent a nice afternoon at the Museum fur Naturkunde, the Natural History Museum in Berlin.
This is the largest museum of natural history in Germany, and was established in 1810, It has a massive collection of more than 25 million zoological, paleontological, and minerological specimens, including more than ten thousand type speciemen. It is most famous for two spectacular exhibits: the largest mounted dinosaur in the world, and the most exquisitely preserved specimen of the earliest known bird, Archaeopteryx.Additional exhibits include a mineral collection representing 75% of the minerals in the world, a large meteor collection, the largest piece of amber in the world; exhibits of the now-extinct quagga and tasmanian tiger, and "Bobby" the gorilla, a Berlin Zoo celebrity from the 1920s and 1930s.
We had a great time, we went with Teresa best friends,they are all so interested in animals but the thing they really enjoy was the submarine big model.
The kids are actualy too small for most of the stuff at the museum, but they had a grat time running around, dangerously near to the gian dinosaurus skeleton.
I'm not so pleased to take Teresa in a place with stuff animals, but i think is so much better than bring her to the zoo and show her this kind of cruelty, and of course it's the same for Circus with animal . It's a kind of compromise for explain and show kids animals and explain
them naturalism.

Last saturday we went to a summerparty in Lohmuehle, a wagen village in Treptower area in Kreutzberg. On the website the member of the comunity describe themself : "We are an emancipated extended family living together by our own free will. We are 21 young and young-at-heart humans with cats, dogs and rabbits, who invest much love, time and money in their site trailers, cabins and wagons. We live here all year round." The place is really nice with good athmosfere.
I'd love to live in a wagen, an old wood wagen souraunded by plats, tree and flower, spend most of the time outside,grow my vegetables and try to save as much energy as i coudl... and all this in a park inside Berlin.I'd love to grow Teresa this way.Two reasons prevent me from this choise, one is the cold german winter..i'm terribly sensitive to cold, i can efford beeing outside in the cold for hours, ride my bike even in a freezing wind but in the end of the day need a hot house with super hot bathroom with a excessive hot bath. The other reason is my disillusion about cohabit, because my sad past experience.
I wish Berlin has the south american weather, and i had learned more from my past mistakes...

Teresa è nuovamente raffreddata, questa sera ha la febbre alta, non riusciava ad addormentarsi e si è già svegliata due volte nell'ultima ora urlando disperata.
la sto curando con supposte e granuli omeopatici.poverettaaaa la mia piccina.
Teresa ha preso non si sa come anche un mollusco contagioso, ovvero tutte bollicine sul petto, per fortuna sembra stia guarendo.
Domenica spero ri riuscire a sistemare il computer e cominciare quindi a lavorare seriamente al nuovo progetto SEWING MACHINE, visto che ho ricevuto una proposta di collaborazione molto interessante...it's time to sew...

FRENCH TOAST
1 fetta di pane ai 5 cereali
il tuorlo di un uovo
un pò di latte di soya
mescolare l'uovo e il latte di soya, inzupparci ben bene il pane
cuocere la fetta di pane in un tegame antiaderente leggermente unto.
guarnire poi la fetta con marmellata o miso o miele e spolverarlo con granella di nocciole.

SUCI SUCI (ovvero il SUSHI come lo dice Teresa)
salto un pò di verdure miste, aggiungo un pò di sitan o temphe a pezzettini piccoli piccoli, semi di sesamo o girasole
mesolo il tutto con riso
avvolgo il riso in un foglio di alga nori leggermente inumidito, metto il rotolo in frigorifero a riposare per circa un' oretta
appena tolto il rotolo dal frigorifero lo taglio a rondelle di circa due centimetri
ed ecco il suci suci che la nana adora.

lentamente mi sto riambientando a Ferrara.....
grazie anche all'aiuto di un vecchisimo amico, nel senso che ci si conosce dai tempi deel'univerità, RIMO, sto scoprendo nuovi negozi dove fare la spesa, aquistare prodotti biologici ed equosolidali, per fortuna alcuni vecchi negozio e spacci ci sono ancora così da avere abbastanza scelta e buoni prezzi, una volta che avrò censito il tutto mi impegno a scrivere un post con dati precisi sui prodotti, la qualità ed i costi.
sempre grazie a RIMO, aka fixed-gear Rimo ;) sto cercando alla ciclofficina una bicicletta sulla quale montare un seggiolino per la nana, domani procederemo all' acqusito del seggiolino, parabrezza e caschetto. medito anche l'assemblaggio di una bicicletta tutta per me.....not allowed for the nana, ma questa in un secondo tempo, ancora troppe cose devo sistemare uffff.
mi sento ancora abbastanza spaesata, non ho ancora realizzato a pieno il trasferimento, mi sento un pò in vacanza ........

la mia ricetta del seitan con carciofi:
una confezione di Seitan mix Food For All, io lo trovo un ottimo preparato, facile da preparare e sopratutto economico con 300gr di prodotto (6 euro circa)si ottiene 1kg di seitan
4cucchiai di gomasio,2 li aggiungo al preparato per seitan(un mio piccolo segreto ) e 2 nella cottura.
4 carciofi
2 spicchi aglio, prezzemolo e un pò di peperoncino
pulite i carciofi fatelia pezzettini, cuoceteli in un pò di brodo vegetale con aglio, gomasio e un pò di peperoncino
ai carciofi quasi cotti aggiungete il seitan fatto a pezzettini, fate cucere un altro pochino e a fuoco spento aggiungete un pò di prezzemolo e aglio tritati
io amo i carciofi e amo il seitan....perciò questo non può che essere uno dei miei piatti preferiti.

Oggi siamo andati a pranzo ad un ristorante vegetariano/macrobiotico molto carino in centro a Roma( Centro Macrobiotico Italiano
Via della Vite, 14 )

il ristorante è molto accogliete e il cibo molto buono.

ottimo il seitan con carciofi e finocchi, il tofu con radicchio, l'insalata di verza e alghe e le crocchette di riso al curry e per finire tiramisu vegan.

Teresa ha assaggiato un pò di tutto anche se ha preferito il seitan, com la mamma hi hi hi

the place is really cosy and the food is so good

we loved the seitan with artichokes and fennel, the tofu with chicory, sea weeds and cabbage salads, rice balls with curry and a great vegan tiramisu'.

certi giorni i bambini possono essere difficili....
Teresa oggi è indemoniata, per fortuna ora dorme un pò.
E' difficilissimo a questa età spiegare ad un bambino perchè non deve fare una cosa o distrarlo da intenti pericolosi...ci vuole pazienza pazienza...io respiro profondamente e appenna posso cucino una torta... come ho appena fatto: TORTA DI CAROTE E PERE :)

io e il papa' abbiamo deciso in accordo con il nostro pediatra di non vaccinare Teresa

dopo averne parlato , aver fatto varie ricerche abbiamo deciso di non esporre Teresa ai rischi correlati alle vacinazioni.

Nutriamo totale fiducia nel nostro pediatra e ci sentiamo molto fortunati ad aver trovato una persona che segua Teresa con cure omeopatiche e naturali e ci sostenga nella scelta di non vaccinarla.

Avendo avuto un esperienza totalmente negativa con il sistema sanitario , siamo ancora piu' convinti di aver fatto la scelta giusta.

Qualche mese fa Teresa è stata molto male, una forma influenzale molto forte con vomito e diarrea, questo l'ha portata alla disidratazione e conseguente ricovero all'ospedale...un incubo, primo perchè vedere la tua bimba stare male è terribile ti spacca il cuore poi ti trovi a relazionarti con medici imprearati ed arroganti, non uno in questa storia ci è sembrato all'altezza....mi hanno detto che il sistema immunitario di Teresa non era adeguatamente sviluppato perchè non era vaccinata.............................

D ue Medici mi hanno detto Teresa stava cosi' male anche perchè io la allattavo ancora.!!!!la pediatra del reparto malattie infettive del policlinico di Roma era stupita che allattasi ancora una bambina di 14 mesi e mi ha suggerito di interrompre!!!!!!!! che questo suo suggerimento sia in qualche modo legato al fatto che i reparti di pediatria sono pieni di poster, calendari e servano omogeneizati e latti Nestlè?? nooo

Dagli esami Teresa risultava essere leggermente anemica, questo ha fatto si che ci "accusasero" di non nutrire la bambina adeguatamente e di aver compromesso la sua salute. Appena Teresa si è rimessa abbiamo firmato e contro il parere medico è tornata a casa, magrissima e terrorizzata dopo l'esperienza all'ospedale.

Il nostro pediatra dopo aver visto i risultati degli esami ci ha rassicurato, erano nella norma per una bimba che era stata male cosi' a lungo, tengo a precisare che il nostro pediatra non è vegetariano.

Teresa con l'aiuto di una serie di integratori e alcuni prodotti omeopatici si e' rimessa velocemente e in un mese è tornata in perfetta salute...piu' peste che mai.

il nostro nuovo paseggino è comodo,leggero e si si lo dico super fico, oggi per provarlo ci siamo fatte una paseggiata di tre ora, con tappa allo Yeti , il nostro bar preferito del pigneto per un cauccino di soya e una torta vegan( quelle di Simona sono buonissime )tornano la nana si è addormentata e trac..ho tirato una levetta e l'ho sdaiata comoda comoda e mentre dormiva io ho dato fatto un pò di shopping...l'unica cosa veramente negativa IL TRAFFICO...troppe macchine troppo inquinamento troppo rumore...altro buon motivo per andarsene prima possibile da Roma...bye bye we are leaving.

Science Says: Excessive Crying Could Be Harmful to BabiesScience tells us that when babies cry alone and unattended, they experience panic and anxiety. Their bodies and brains are flooded with adrenaline and cortisol stress hormones. Science has also found that when developing brain tissue is exposed to these hormones for prolonged periods these nerves won’t form connections to other nerves and will degenerate. Is it therefore possible that infants who endure many nights or weeks of crying-it-out alone are actually suffering harmful neurologic effects that may have permanent implications on the development of sections of their brain? Here is how science answers this alarming question:

Chemical and hormonal imbalances in the brain
Research has shown that infants who are routinely separated from parents in a stressful way have abnormally high levels of the stress hormone cortisol, as well as lower growth hormone levels. These imbalances inhibit the development of nerve tissue in the brain, suppress growth, and depress the immune system. 5, 9, 11, 16

Researchers at Yale University and Harvard Medical School found that intense stress early in life can alter the brain’s neurotransmitter systems and cause structural and functional changes in regions of the brain similar to those seen in adults with depression. 17

One study showed infants who experienced persistent crying episodes were 10 times more likely to have ADHD as a child, along with poor school performance and antisocial behavior. The researchers concluded these findings may be due to the lack of responsive attitude of the parents toward their babies. 14.

Dr. Bruce Perry’s research at Baylor University may explain this finding. He found when chronic stress over-stimulates an infant’s brain stem (the part of the brain that controls adrenaline release), and the portions of the brain that thrive on physical and emotional input are neglected (such as when a baby is repeatedly left to cry alone), the child will grow up with an over-active adrenaline system. Such a child will display increased aggression, impulsivity, and violence later in life because the brainstem floods the body with adrenaline and other stress hormones at inappropriate and frequent times. 6

Dr. Allan Schore of the UCLA School of Medicine has demonstrated that the stress hormone cortisol (which floods the brain during intense crying and other stressful events) actually destroys nerve connections in critical portions of an infant’s developing brain. In addition, when the portions of the brain responsible for attachment and emotional control are not stimulated during infancy (as may occur when a baby is repeatedly neglected) these sections of the brain will not develop. The result – a violent, impulsive, emotionally unattached child. He concludes that the sensitivity and responsiveness of a parent stimulates and shapes the nerve connections in key sections of the brain responsible for attachment and emotional well-being. 7, 8

Decreased intellectual, emotional, and social development
Infant developmental specialist Dr. Michael Lewis presented research findings at an American Academy of Pediatrics meeting, concluding that “the single most important influence of a child’s intellectual development is the responsiveness of the mother to the cues of her baby.”

Researchers have found babies whose cries are usually ignored will not develop healthy intellectual and social skills. 19

Dr. Rao and colleagues at the National Institutes of Health showed that infants with prolonged crying (but not due to colic) in the first 3 months of life had an average IQ 9 points lower at 5 years of age. They also showed poor fine motor development. (2)

Researchers at Pennsylvania State and Arizona State Universities found that infants with excessive crying during the early months showed more difficulty controlling their emotions and became even fussier when parents tried to consol them at 10 months. 15

Other research has shown that these babies have a more annoying quality to their cry, are more clingy during the day, and take longer to become independent as children 1.

Harmful physiologic changes
Animal and human research has shown when separated from parents, infants and children show unstable temperatures, heart arrhythmias, and decreased REM sleep (the stage of sleep that promotes brain development). 10 12, 13

Dr. Brazy at Duke University and Ludington-Hoe and colleagues at Case Western University showed in 2 separate studies how prolonged crying in infants causes increased blood pressure in the brain, elevates stress hormones, obstructs blood from draining out of the brain, and decreases oxygenation to the brain. They concluded that caregivers should answer cries swiftly, consistently, and comprehensively.

LA MIA ESPERIENZA PERSONALE
Da quando è nata Teresa ha sempre dormito insieme a me, da subito la vicinanza ha reso lei una dormigliona, 12 ore di sonno da sempre con le ovvie interruzioni per l'allattamento e ha fatto si che io mi sentissi sempre sicura tenendola sempre sotto controllo e mi rendesse comodo l'alattamento.
Ora Teresa ha 18 mesi, ancora dorme con me, ora è un pò piu' dura perchè qualche notte è "tarantolata" e qualche volta è dura allattarla ancora la notte...certe volte penso a quando potrò dormitre 10 ore filate....ma una vocina dentro di me mi dice sempre "mai piu' ora sei una madre...."E' dura quando è raffreddata o magari non sta bene e quindi non mangia molto, cioè ultimamente quasi sempre, e vuole ciucciare anche quattro cinque volte a notte anche per un ora o due, si e' dura e devo dire che mi sfiora il pensiero di smettare di allattarla , ma poi penso che è così importante che potro' resistere ancora un pò, magari cercherò di eliminare lentamente la poppate notturne, cercando di riaddormentare dolcemente Teresa lottando contro la stanchezza...ma si l'inverno passera' veloce e sara' tutto piu' facile :)POi io adoro sentirla accanto a me, adoro quando mi abbraccia di notte, vedere il suo faccino meraviglioso e ora anche sentirle di "ciao mamma, mamma mamma mamaaa" appena si sveglia.

10 Reasons to Wear Your Baby
. Wearing your baby is convenient.
When you carry your baby in a sling, you can walk around freely and not have to worry about negotiating steps, crowds or narrow aisles with a stroller. Plastic "baby buckets" are heavy and awkward for parents and they sure don't look too comfortable for the baby being swung around at knee level! Your sling can also double as a changing pad, blanket or cushion when you're out. It blocks out excess stimuli if you're breastfeeding a distractable baby, and lets you nurse discreetly when you need to. I've found my sling especially handy when negotiating busy airports with a small child and several bags!

2. Wearing your baby promotes her physical development.
When your baby rides in a sling attached to your body, she is in tune with the rhythm of your breathing, the sound of your heartbeat, and the movements you make – walking, bending, reaching. This stimulation helps her regulate her own physical responses, and also exercises her vestibular system, which controls balance. The sling is in essence a "transitional womb" for the new baby, who has difficulty controlling her bodily functions and movements. Premature babies who are touched and held gain weight faster and are healthier than babies who are not. Mechanical swings and other holding devices do not provide these same benefits.

3. Babies worn in slings are happier.
Studies have shown that the more babies are held, the less they cry and fuss. In indigenous cultures where baby-wearing is the norm, babies often cry for only a few minutes a day – as opposed to Western babies, who frequently cry for hours each day. Crying is exhausting for both baby and his parents, and may cause long-term damage as the baby's developing brain is continually flooded with stress hormones. Babies who are not wasting their energy on crying are calmly observing and learning about their environment. Baby-wearing is particularly useful for colicky or "high needs" babies who are far happier being worn, but even the placid, content child will benefit from the warmth and security of being held close.

4. Baby-wearing is good exercise for you!
It's hard to find time to exercise when you are a new mother, but if you carry your baby around with you most of the day or go for a brisk walk with your baby in her sling, you will be doing your body good. A long walk in the sling is also an excellent way to put a child to sleep.

5. Toddlers appreciate the security of the sling.
Many people associate slings with infants, but they are very useful for toddlers as well (most slings accommodate children up to 35-40lbs). The world is often a scary place for toddlers, so they feel more confident when they can retreat to the security of the sling when they need to. Toddlers are also prone to becoming over-stimulated, and a ride in the sling helps to soothe and comfort them before (or after!) a melt-down occurs. It is also very practical in places like the zoo or aquarium, where a small child in a stroller would not be able to see very much.

6. Baby-wearing helps you and your baby communicate better with each other.
The more competent you feel as a parent, the more you can relax and enjoy your child. And a large part of feeling confident in your parenting is being able to read your baby's cues successfully. When your baby is held close to you in a sling, you become very sensitive to each other's gestures and facial expressions. Many baby-wearing parents report that they never learn to distinguish their baby's cries (as mainstream parenting books say they should) – because their babies are able to communicate effectively without crying! Each time your baby is able to let you know she is hungry, bored or wet without crying, her trust in you is boosted and your confidence in yourself as a parent is reinforced. This positive cycle of interactions builds upon itself, enhances your mutual attachment, and makes life more enjoyable for everyone.

7. Slings are a bonding tool for fathers, grandparents and other caregivers.
Slings are a useful tool for everyone in baby's life. It makes me smile everytime I see a dad going for a walk with his baby in a sling. Baby is becoming used to his voice, heartbeat, movements and facial expressions and the two are forging a strong attachment of their own. Fathers don't get the automatic headstart on bonding that comes with gestation, but that doesn't mean they can't make up for this once baby is born. The same goes for babysitters, grandparents and anyone else the baby comes into contact with. Cuddling up close in the sling is a wonderful way to get to know the baby in your life, and for the baby to get to know you.

8. Slings are a safe place for a child to be.
Instead of being pushed along the street inhaling exhaust fumes in a stroller or running around loose in a busy parking lot, a child in a sling is held safe and secure right next to your body. Slings also provide emotional safety, so that children can venture into the world and become independent at their own pace.

9. Slings save you money.
Apart from being easy to use, slings cost far less than those big boat-like strollers, designer front-carriers or baby backpacks. In fact, once you start using one you'll probably find it among your most useful and economical possessions. Used slings can be found in consignment and thrift stores for a pittance, and even new ones can be bought for about $25-50. You can sew your own for the price of a length of cotton, some rings and batting (the Elizabeth Lee catalogue sells sling patterns). Not bad for an item you'll end up using daily for at least a couple of years!

10. It's fun to wear your baby.
Who doesn't love to cuddle a downy-headed, sweet-smelling little baby? And when your baby is older, having her in the sling makes conversations easier and allows you to observe her reactions to the wonders of the world around her. It's also fun for baby, because when she is up at eye level, other adults notice and interact with her a lot. Your child will feel more a part of your life when she is in her sling, and you will find yourself becoming more and more enchanted with your special little person.
